All of the artwork at Sesame and Lilies (with the exception of a few antique paintings) are original pieces produced by the owner, Diane Speakman and her daughter Rachel Speakman.
The Sesame and Lilies Upstairs Art Gallery is located on the second floor of the Cannon Beach Mall and features an array of their work. S+L also has an active studio space in the upstairs of Sesame and Lilies where you can see them at work.
The original artwork throughout the store includes landscapes, abstracts, and wildlife paintings. Collectively, the art is an essential element in creating an environment and aesthetic that is unique to Sesame and Lilies. They tie the colors and textures of a room together, and make the space feel bigger and brighter, with striking landscapes and animal portraiture.

About the artists
Both artists work in oil on canvas and hardboard. Diane specializes in landscapes, still-lives, and animal portraits. While their work often overlaps, Rachel specializes in animal forms and nature-based abstracts. The use of a moderate palette to render the soft hues of the northwest coast gives Diane's work an impressionistic feel, which mixes seamlessly with the curated spaces of Sesame and Lilies. Her interest in the works of the old masters, impressionism, and plein-air painting drive her stylistic choices. Her new works include seascapes of the Oregon and Maine coasts, still-lives, and animal portraits. Rachel's work, on the other hand, reflects the influence of a younger generation of artists. She employs her own brand of stylized realism in her animal paintings (and sculpture) that take an edgier approach in both form and color. She is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
